Makeup Days for Students
Beginning 4th quarter we will offer a Saturday date right before midterms and a Saturday date right before the quarter ends to any student who would like to come in and work on assignments, use the wifi, get help from the teachers working, etc.. This will be voluntary and not used as a punishment. Please take advantage of this offer if you have poor grades or missing assignments.
ICU
As of right now, we have recovered 4, 835 assignments in ICU. This program is designed to help you be successful! Not doing the work is no longer an option.
Girls STEM Trip
45 of our 7th grade girls will be gone with their science teachers on Tuesday participating in a STEM field trip organized by Southeast Missouri State University.
JROTC Assemblies
Members of the high school JROTC will be here Tuesday, March 13th to give a presentation about the program to 8th graders. Eighth grade students are to go to the gym during their academic lab for this presentation.
STUCO “March 14 Walkout”
I don’t know if you are all aware, but on March 14th, there are supposed to be nationwide school walkouts. Students are walking out to send a message to lawmakers that they want their schools to be safer and to repeal gun laws. Our student council approached me and asked to work with me on this. We decided that on March 14, they will be organizing a memorial from 7:00-7:20 at the flagpole to honor the 17 victims who lost their lives in the Parkland Florida shooting. They will speak about how as a school and as a nation, we need to be kinder to each other and stop the hate and violence. I told them we needed to keep it positive and not political; and they were fine with that. At 7:17 we will release 17 balloons. I thought it sounded like a fantastic tribute and I would encourage anyone to attend. They will be organizing it and promoting it with the student body.
MAP Dates
Communication Arts will test during the week of April 30. Math will test the week of May 7th and Science the week of May 14.
Cell Phone Trial Week
The cell phone trial week will end on Wednesday. I will survey teachers and students to see how we thought it went before deciding to stay with it or not.
Student PD Day
Student PD day is coming soon! 8th graders know what I’m talking about. It is a day where students can choose to go to any class they want! We will have everything from cooking to taekwondo. Be watching for more details coming soon!
Fighting at School
We have way too many students lately who are trying to solve their problems with violence. Fighting will result in long term suspensions. We will not tolerate it. This school is to be a safe place focused on learning. We have two counselors and an administrative team that can help with issues before they turn into discipline situations. Use your words and seek help.
8th Grade Registration
All Green sheets are due back to Mrs. Elledge with a parent signature by Monday or you might receive classes that you didn’t sign up for!
