Poplar Bluff Junior High School
February 5 through February 9, 2018
WELCOME
I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the Superbowl (or the halftime show and commercials like me:))
Soccer Information
Tryouts start on Monday on the main football field if weather permits. We will have the boys and girls days split.
7th grade Boys Monday 3-5pm
8th grade Boys Tuesday 3-5pm
7th grade Girls Wednesday 3-5pm
8th grade Girls Thursday 3-5pm
Kids interested in playing must have a physical on file by tryouts. They also will need to be sure to bring tennis shoes, cleats, shin guards and socks along with athletic clothes to each open gym/practice.
Community Book/Book Study
Students who choose to participate will be reading “News of the World” by Paulette Jiles for Book in the Bluff. Joyce Whitworth will be coming up during 6th hour three times a week to facilitate a book study discussion with our 8th graders who are participating. If you love to read and would like to participate, please sign up in Google Classroom on the Student Body page.
St. Jude’s Mathathon
The St. Jude’s Mathathon kicks off this week. As a district, we are only $30,000 away from donating 1 million dollars since our involvement started. The top 3 building winners will get to miss school on April 6 to go to the Memphis Zoo. Mrs. Nicolini will have more information for you this week.
Rule Reminders
I’ve been seeing a lot of students with hoods on in the halls. Please remember that hoods, hats and bandanas are not allowed to be worn inside the buildings unless it is a special occasion that Mrs. Warren has approved. Also, remember to walk not run in the halls and keep moving! Grouping up and standing in the halls talking is not allowed.
Track
Any student interested in joining the track team, see Coach Lance in the cafeteria Tuesday during breakfast duty.
Valentine’s Dance
Beta Club will be sponsoring a Valentine’s Dance for the school. Anyone who is not on the “No Go List” may attend. Posters with info are in the halls!
Mule Shack
On Fridays, our Life Skills students will be working in conjunction with Chartwells to sell their a la carte items. This will include all cookies, ice cream, chips and drinks. Smoothies are coming soon! Students must have cash for these items.
