 WELCOME

Welcome back! It sure was nice to see that big orange ball in the sky again!!  I hope everyone enjoyed their time.

Black History Month Assembly

We will have an assembly on Wednesday morning in honor of Black History Month.  Several of our students will be participating and we have community speakers coming in as well.  This will start at 7:30 in the gym and conclude at 8. We will be on assembly schedule that day. At 8, our Lifeskills students will be taking the speakers and other members of our community downstairs to serve them breakfast.  I want to thank Laronda Mack for organizing this assembly and working with our students over this last month to prepare!

Wheatley School Field Trip

All of our 7th grade students will be going to Wheatley School on Tuesday during their English classes to enrich the experience they’ve had while reading “The Watsons Go to Birmingham”.  A big thank you to Tammie, Jessica and Lybby for working with Wheatley to organize this experience for our students.

Blitz Day

Blitz Day will be this Friday.  Make sure you get all your missing assignments completed if you’d like to attend..

JROTC Presentations

Members of the high school JROTC will present an informational program about JROTC on Tuesday, February 26th. This is for 8th graders only. Students will report to the gym during their Academic Lab.

9th grade registration

High School counselors will be here Monday March 4th, during History classes, to talk with 8th graders about 9th grade registration. Eighth grade students should have their list of elective class options ready. Please refer to the 9th grade course manual in Google Classroom or the paper copy in your Academic Lab to find course options and descriptions.

Social Media

Students, please keep in mind that anything that you post on social media during non school hours/off campus, but carries over into school and affects the school population, can be subject to a discipline consequence issued by the school.  It is not to be taken lightly. Use good judgment in this area! If you wouldn’t say it to your mom or grandma, it’s probably not a good idea to post it.

Discipline, Grades and Attendance

We will begin registering for classes soon for next year.  Discipline, grade and attendance determine who gets to pick their electives and design their schedules first.  Keep this in mind and make good choices!

Coffee with Counselors

Our counselors will be hosting this event on Friday, March 8th at 9 AM in our cafeteria with parents of 8th graders to speak with them about “All things High School”.  We will do this with 6th grade parents in April.

NAEP testing

NAEP testing is scheduled for Thursday, March 7th. Only 8th grade students who have been randomly selected to participate will take the test. Ms. Jackson will speak with these students again with specific instructions, prior to the testing date. Teachers will be emailed a list of students who are participating.

Congrats

Congratulations to Britney Stahl, our 2019-2020 teacher of the year!
